Extreme cold and an approaching major winter storm have prompted dozens of schools and districts across the Kansas City metro area to cancel in-person classes on Friday, January 23, 2026. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the entire region, with wind chills dropping below zero and 6–9 inches of snow expected starting Friday evening through Sunday.
