President Jeffrey R. Holland, affectionately known as Elder Holland or Jeffrey Holland, was a beloved leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Serving as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles from 1994 until his passing, and later as President of the Quorum in 2025, his powerful testimonies and heartfelt messages touched millions worldwide. Born on December 3, 1940, in St. George, Utah, Jeffrey Roy Holland grew up in a faithful family. He served a full-time mission in Great Britain, where he developed a deep love for sharing the gospel. After returning, he married his eternal companion, Patricia Terry, in the St. George Utah Temple in 1963. Together, they raised three children—Matthew, Mary Alice, and David—and welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren into their loving family.Elder Holland's educational journey was remarkable. A standout athlete and student leader at Dixie High School and Dixie College, he earned degrees from Brigham Young University (BYU) in English and religious education. He later obtained master's and PhD degrees in American studies from Yale University. His career in education culminated in serving as the ninth president of BYU from 1980 to 1989, where he inspired generations of students with his vision for faith-based learning.Called as a General Authority in 1989 and ordained an Apostle in 1994, President Holland became known for his eloquent, passionate defense of Jesus Christ and the restored gospel. Even in his final months, amid health challenges, he continued to testify boldly, including in his October 2025 General Conference address, "And Now I See," where he shared profound insights on recognizing God's works in our lives.On December 27, 2025, President Jeffrey R. Holland passed away peacefully at age 85, surrounded by family, due to complications from kidney disease.
